'Food and Drink' will return to BBC2 next year, 12 years after it was axed.

'Food and Drink' is to return to TV.

The popular programme - which ran for 19 years until 2000 - will air for six episodes on BBC2 next year, with former 'MasterChef' judge Michel Roux Jr. at the helm.

The celebrity chef will guide viewers through recipes along with other big names from the culinary world, as well as examining food trends and consumer issues.

Michel said: "The original programme inspired many and with Britain's appreciation for good food having grown so much in the last 30 years, I am looking forward to exploring fantastic food and drink with old and new friends.

"There will be lots of new and exciting recipes and ingredients for viewers to try at home and some surprising modern twists to traditional dishes."

BBC chiefs say they only ever had Michel in mind to host the new show.

Liam Keelan, the BBC's controller of daytime, said: "Given the show's heritage and importance to anyone with a passion for food, we could only ever see Michel Roux Jr. fronting it."
